That's commitment!

Nobody commits to a fashion bit quite like Margot Robbie.

Just when some thought Robbie might be leaving her Barbie-inspired wardrobe in 2023, she pulled out, not one, but two Barbie looks for the Golden Globes. On January 8 the 33-year-old actor hit the red carpet in a sparkling version of the bubble-gum pink dress worn by the Superstar Barbie doll released in 1977, (likely very itchy) tulle boa et al.

What you may not know about Superstar Barbie is that she came with an outfit change, allowing little kids to swap out the pink dress and boa for an even more glamorous version of the head-to-toe look. So, just as Robbie channeled Day-to-Night Barbie at the film’s premiere in Seoul, South Korea, she wasn’t going to miss the opportunity for a fashion one-eighty. And what better place for an all-black moment than a Hollywood after-party?

After Barbie took home the Golden Globes’ first-ever cinematic and box office achievement award, Robbie was photographed leaving Chateau Marmont wearing Superstar Barbie’s iconic second look. Though it was likely always the plan to switch into black for the after-party, the nod to the Barbenheimer movement was just an added bonus.

Though Golden Globes host Jo Koy may have reduced Barbie to a movie about “a plastic doll with big boobies,” the film was actually about the triumphs and power of womanhood. And yes, Barbie embraced fashion as a form of expression and empowerment instead of dismissing the art form as a frivolous enterprise, which is probably why so many viewers wore their best pink outfits to see it.

“I would like to dedicate this to every single person on the planet who dressed up and went to the greatest place on earth, the movie theaters," Margot Robbie said in her acceptance speech as the film’s producer. After thanking Ryan Gosling for “going full beach,” she concluded, “Last but not least, thank you so much to the Golden Globes for creating an award that celebrates movie fans. This is a movie about Barbie, but it’s also a movie about humans. We made it—it’s about you. We made it for you and we made it with love.”
