22 Best Designer Bags That Are Actually Worth It
The best designer bags are ones you wear and cherish for years to come. Sure, these wardrobe essentials can be trend driven, but there are plenty of timeless options—think about the classic styles from Chanel, Dior, and Louis Vuitton. Beyond perhaps the instantly recognizable logo and appeal of owning something so covetable, a luxury designer bag is worth the investment because they can hold value over time compared with nondesigner brands. But how to choose? It's not enough to see a particular style all over your feed (although a certain Jacquemus shoulder bag does come to mind) or fall in love with the way an A-lister wore something, even if Hailey Bieber makes a strong case for this Saint Laurent shoulder bag. We tapped some of the most stylish people we know to find out which designer brands—and the specific bag styles—they think are worth the investment.

The people we spoke to had strong feelings about the bags they splurged on—and even more to say about the things that influence their decision. Many said they look for quality and design, like smooth, buttery leather that gets better with time and distinct shape that somehow consistently feels special. Others have brands they’re loyal to, as is the case with one Vogue director who owns several Proenza Schouler totes and uses them on repeat. Which brings us to other deciding factors: upfront price and price-per-wear. In an ideal world, not only will you get plenty of mileage out of the bag, but whichever style you buy brand-new or thrift on Poshmark or Depop should also be able to get another lease on life once you're ready to move on.

Tory Burch Lee Radziwill Whipstitch Double Bag
Behind the brand: Empowering women through its #EmbraceAmbition global initiative typifies the Tory Burch brand, which spans a vast array of ready-to-wear, accessories, and home decor.
Known for: The Ella tote, which comes in various sizes (mini, small, and large sizes) and fabrics (leather, printed nylon, raffia), among many other signature styles, like the mini Miller cross-body bag.
What editors love about this bag: Tory Burch handbags will last forever, but more so than that, they are all incredibly chic and gorgeous. I'm such a fan of the Lee Radziwill Whipstitch Double Bag in clay, which is unlike anything I've ever seen thanks to its accordion-like design with slider buckle and leather whipstitch. The contrasting colors as well (in this case, sky blue and light tangerine with clay beige) make it fashion-forward and a wardrobe staple that will go with anything. It's perfect for the office or for brunch, and although it costs half of my month's rent, I know I'll have it forever. —Jessica Radloff, Glamour senior editor

Gucci Horsebit 1955 Shoulder Bag
Behind the brand: The Italian luxury fashion house has been making luxury leather goods since 1913.
Known for: The gold horse-bit hardware and iconic red and green stripes, with many timeless handbag styles to choose from.
What editors love about this bag: I've owned this bag for four years now and it's still in great condition. I love the classic, retro vibe it has and the fact that it's a versatile spring-to-summer bag. —Samantha Barry, Glamour editor in chief

Gucci Diana Small Tote Bag
What editors love about this bag: Princess Diana is my eternal style icon, so how could I not purchase one of her most favorite handbags? The style was so beloved by the former Princess of Wales that Gucci decided to name it after her when they reimagined the design in 2021—20 years after the original was spotted on her arm. The style is timeless and versatile, characteristics that must be credited to Princess Diana, who schlepped it to the gym and elegantly toted it at formal events all the same. —Ariana Yaptangco, Glamour senior beauty editor

Prada Re-Nylon Medium Backpack
Behind the brand: The legacy Italian brand has been around since 1913, and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons are Prada's current creative directors.
Known for: The brand has revived a handful of ’90s and Y2K-era nylon bags in recent years (and made them more sustainable) and launched new styles like this raffia shopper, all of which are Gen Z staples.
What editors love about this bag: I lived through the original Prada nylon mania of the late ’90s and early 2000s, but there was no way my parents were ever spending that amount of money on a bag for their young daughter. And every time I tried to save, I’d walk by an Urban Outfitters or a Sam Goody. I’ve always coveted the backpack specifically, mostly for its perfectly slouchy construction, discreet logo plate, and chunky pockets. After months of stalking resale sites, I recently acquired the designer bag of my teenage dreams on Poshmark for a quarter of the original retail price, and probably an eighth of what the reissued version, available now, costs. I love that’s simultaneously understated though so obviously classic Prada, and I use it almost daily. For work, it holds my thin laptop perfectly and for weekends it holds my toddler’s snacks (and mine). A true icon! —Perrie Samotin, Glamour digital director

I knew I made the right move when it arrived. Not only is it versatile—you can carry it in your hand or loosen the strap to sling it over your shoulder—but it also feels appropriate for day or night. The green leather is a nice change from my usual all-black predilection, and the tiny Swarovski crystals add serious party vibes.
